Competing with Horses

A QUESTION EVERY CHRISTIAN LEADER NEEDS TO WRESTLE WITH...

"If you have raced with men on foot, and they have wearied you, how will you compete with horses?" ~Jeremiah 12:5

Jeremiah, often known as the "weeping prophet" was confronted with this weighty question after bringing his complaint before God - "Why does the way of the wicked prosper? Why do all who are treacherous thrive?" (Jeremiah 12:1) Before jumping on Jeremiah's case about complaining to God, stop and think about his question. It's extremely relevant today and if we're honest, everyone of us has asked the same question. I have found it one of the most aggravating things I've dealt with as a Christian leader. We walk with people following hard after God and calamity is all over their life. Yet those who repeatedly disobey Godly, biblical council seem to keep prospering. And the more the wicked prosper, the harder it is for them to see their need. We even see Jesus dealing with this in Matthew 19. So the complaint is valid.

I am so challenged by God's response to Jeremiah. In essence, God challenged Jeremiah and He challenges us; if the pettiness of men wears us out, how will we overcome larger and weightier matters? Do you find yourself wore out by people? Are you tired? Are you about to quit? If you're exhausted with what we can accomplish in our own strength, how will you compete with the impossible?

Start wrestling with this question and allow the Holy Spirit to shed light on your source of strength. Allow Him to show you how to run and not grow weary. And remember, no human being can compete with horses apart from a supernatural source of strength.
